Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Therapy

ABA is a scientifically proven intervention approach which uses principles that increase skills and decrease challenging behavior by using positive reinforcement strategies. Our approach is individualized and incorporates the family’s goals for their child. ABA Therapy provides a structured and consistent approach to teach those with Autism and other developmental disabilities. Direct (face-to-face) intervention is delivered in the child’s home by a trained behavior therapist. Individualized instruction is provided using the ABA instructional approaches of Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Pivotal Response Training (PRT), and Incidental Teaching. The degree of each approach within a treatment program is individualized based on the needs of the child. As appropriate, community outings for inclusion support and appropriate behavior training in natural environments may be included within a child’s home-based intervention program. Age- appropriate programming is made a priority through program design (e.g., play- based session for younger children; use of natural routines for older children) and use of age-appropriate programming materials.

Parent Education

Behavioral Spectrum Solutions (BSS) provides parent education to help the family overcome behavioral challenges in the home environment, and to promote generalization of learned behaviors. Collaboration with the educational team is provided to promote generalization to school, and encourage a team approach to intervention. Our families receive the attention and support they deserve by a BCBA, working in collaboration as an essential part of their child's team.

Assessment

In order to design and implement the most comprehensive and effective treatment plan for each student, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will conduct initial assessments before treatment. The assessment process typically involves direct observations of the student, parent interviews, as well as formal evaluations and direct testing. Assessment tools generally include some combination of the following:

  • Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills-Revised (ABLLS-R)
  • Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP)
  • Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)
  • Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS)
